Bob & Mike have been playing together since high school when they were
in various incarnations of metal bands including, Silent Darkness.
When Silent Darkness broke up, they both went about their lives in the
"so-called" real world, until both had an urge to reform a band. Mike's sister, who is friend's with Jeff's wife,
asked Jeff if he would be interested in playing in a band, so Jeff called Mike and joined the band. The only member
missing was a lead singer.
Rachel joined the group when Jeff saw the ad she placed on MDParty as a singer looking for a band. Jeff
contacted her for an audition and Volia! The birth of 2nd Time Around.
The band's name was chosen based upon the members having been in previous bands and playing many
hit tunes from the 60's, 70's 80's and now.
2nd Time Around has been playing together since October 2004 and will
begin gigging in the near future at a local establishment near you!
Running with Rachel
A transplant from Michigan, Rachel moved to the area last year and is still trying to pick up that Balmer, Merlin accent...
she definitely needs more practice!
Rachel has been singing for years - just don't plan to hear the reel to reel tape from years ago anytime soon.
Rachel grew up loving music and learned to play the violin at age 8. Now she's learning to play the guitar and hopefully
one day will add this element to the band but that is a ways down the road.
Her musical taste are all over the board from classical to modern rock, she employs a non-discrimination policy against
any type of music, although you won't hear her singing country especially in this group. Rachel loves Sheryl Crowe,
Michelle Branch, Gwen Stefani, Pat Benatar - but you'll probably hear her singing more male oriented songs based upon the
STA Play List!
Fun Fact...Rachel has a killer karate kick with pointy toed boots - This keeps the guys in line! ;)
O-Yeah she's a huge Orioles fan!
What About Bob?
Back in his
middle school and early high school days, Bob liked to rock out to - Van Halen
(before they were Van Haggar) Motley Crue, Iron Maiden and Metallica. Bob's
musical taste evolved as he entered into his upperclassman years in high school and he went on to embrace Slayer
and various other speed metal and punk rock bands, which were some of the influences in his
band Silent Darkness. Today Bob is really in to classic rock bands like Eagles, ACDC and Lynyrd Skynyrd but every now
again you an hear the heavy crunch come through in a STA set!
Bob earned his
Associates in Arts degree from Essex Community College majoring in music
with a focus in jazz guitar - but he claims he was never
really that good. Mr. Modesty!
While in college, Bob built his first guitar and then went on to attend
Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Arizona to refine his guitar building skills. With his love for music, he worked a year at Ovation instruments in Connecticut but came back to his Maryland roots to run his small guitar shop in Baltimore. From there he went from music into the field of accounting but he is coming around again!
Back to his passion for music.
Mostly Mike...
Being a teenager in the 80’s, Mike’s influences
and bass career started here. Being the band’s self proclaimed metal head, the majority of his musical taste (or lack
there of) comes from this genre.
It started with Van Halen then moved on to Motley Crue, Dokken
and Iron Maiden. One of the many other guitarists in a previous band turned him on to Metallica in 1985 and then the floodgates
opened. Late 80’s thrash: Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Pantera and Wrathchild America are still Mike’s biggest influences
but he has gained an appreciation for the new styles he has been exposed to in STA.
In 1992 if you had of said to him: "You will be playing (and
enjoying) Sheryl Crowe, Romantics and Modern English covers in 2005." He would have said, "You are out of your mind!”
My how the times have changed! :)
Just who is Jeff?
Born and raised in Perry Hall, Jeff began playing drums in 5th grade (a long
time ago in a galaxy far,far away) - Pity his parents! - and has been playing ever since.
Jeff enjoys all kinds of music from big band to classical to baroque but mainly
in your face rock and roll. His musical influences include:
Buddy Rich, Beatles, Grand Funk Railroad, Eagles, Boston, Ac/DC Foreigner, Chicago,
Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer..........................
Fun Fact...Before joining Second Time Around Jeff's beer of choice was Coors
Light. Now, thanks to Bob he drinks Natty Boh.
